Tools to help determine variable rate seeding and fertiliser
DataFarming offers several tools that can help tailor seeding rates and starter fertiliser rates by analysing spatial variability in productivity and soil conditions. Here's how you can use them to create more effective and efficient seeding and fertiliser application plans:
1. EM Zone Mapping (Electromagnetic Soil Mapping)
Purpose: Uses EM38 or similar soil data to map variability in soil type, moisture, and compaction.
Use: Adjust starter rates based on soil texture and water-holding capacity.
Benefit: Tailor fertiliser rates to specific soil needs—e.g., sandy soils may need more starter fertiliser for early growth.
2. STACK Tool
Purpose: Combine multiple NDVI layer into one decision layer.
Use: Create composite management 5 zones that factor in both soil and plant performance.
Benefit: More accurate starter rate decisions based on multi-layer insight.
3. Prescription Map Tool
Purpose: It automatically creates management zones using NDVI data.
Use: Identify high- and low-performing areas within a field and creates custom prescription maps based on zone data where you can assign specific starter fertiliser rates (kg/ha) per zone.
Benefit: Apply higher starter rates in high-potential zones and lower rates in low-zones to avoid waste.
