Using NDVI throughout the production cycle
You can use NDVI when you want to monitor crop health, track variability, and make better farming decisions throughout the growing season or simply to see how your crop is performing without stepping into the paddock.
There are many advantages of using it; some are listed below:
1. Early in the Season (Emergence to Establishment)
- You can check for uneven emergence or missed strips.
- It helps to identify spot for replanting needs early.
2. Mid-Season (Vegetative Growth)
- You can monitor crop health and detect early stress like nutrients, pests, water etc.
- It helps to adjust irrigation or fertilization based on plant response.
3. During Fertilizer Application Planning
- You can use NDVI to create variable rate application (VRA) maps.
- Apply nitrogen or other inputs and possibly save some costs.
4. Pre-Harvest
- It helps to understand your crop maturity and uniformity across the field or farm.
5. Post-Harvest (Season Review)
- You can review NDVI trends from the season and can identify consistently poor or high-performing zones for next year’s planning.
